Digital hearing aids

There are a lot of digital hearing aids on the market and it can be confusing for new or even existing buyers to know which hearing aid manufacturer is best. Now that older analogue hearing aids have been replaced by digital hearing aids the performance, style and functionality has improved markedly. First time hearing aid users can now be reassured to know that the latest digital hearing aids are small, lightweight and almost invisible hearing aids. There are so many different hearing aid styles to choose from in the ear which places the entire hearing aid into the ear canal and is fitted to the exact contours of the ear. BTE or behind the ear hearing aids are more traditional in design but can offer exceptional performance for more severe hearing loss. RITE receiver in the ear or open ear hearing aids are the latest in digital hearing aid technology that helps with a more comfortable hearing aid fit and great performance for mild to moderate hearing losses and perfect for the first time wearer. Oticon Dual, Oticon Epoq, Phonak Audeo Yes, Resound Dot are all examples of digital hearing aids that use receiver in the ear or open ear technology.

Oticon hearing aids and Phonak hearing aids are considers leaders in the area of hearing aid binaural processing and hearing aid connectivity. Oticon produces a wide range of hearing aids that now employ Bluetooth connectivity to enable the hearing aids such as Oticon Epoq and Oticon Dual to connect with each other, mbile phones and personal communication assistants. Phonak Exelia, Phonak Versata, Certena and Audeo Yes are part of a growing family of Phonak hearing aids that utilize Bluetooth technology to help the hearing aids communicate with mobile phones and other electronic devices.

First see your GP but then look for an independent hearing care retailer who can offer impartial advice on all the latest digital hearing aids from manufacturers such as Phonak hearing aids, Oticon hearing aids, Resound hearing aids.  Your GP may be able to refer you to the audiology department of your local hospital and put you on the waiting list for a hearing aid. The hearing aids available from the NHS are only BTE or behind the ear styles and will not offer the same level of technology as those that are available from private hearing aid dispensers but they will be free. There is a lot of information about digital hearing aids available from the RNID.

Always check to see if the hearing care professional can offer a free hearing test and free hearing aid demonstration.

  1. Hearing is a lot more complicated than just amplifying some sound. I've been a hearing instrument specialist for 12 years and I have never seen anyone buy any off the shelf product that has been any use as a hearing aid. Such a device might help you hear the TV better in a quiet room but when it comes to living a normal life, eating out, meeting friends or relatives they will be little to no use.

If you have a hearing problem you need to have your hearing tested by a Hearing Instrument Specialist or an audiologist. Make sure that the 'expert' is the one who actually does the testing. Make sure you are offered a trial period. Make sure you are fitted with a test aid system to hear what actual aids are like before even ordering them. Find out about the rehab and service program. Keep in mind that not all digital aids are the same. I work for one specific company and we have 14 different kinds of digital aid!

Remember the old expression, buy cheap buy twice. There is not a week that goes by that I don't see a patient who has wasted some money on some cheap aids that don't work, and now they are having to buy something that works.

i wear digital hearing aids and i love them….they have 4 settings which the doc will explain….what i like about them is if it gets too loud in the room they automatically switch themselves to a different "mode"….and yes you should be able to watch tv normally

It depends on the manufacturer and how they define the word digital in respect to their product.
It could just mean in the control circuitry alone, or it could be that the audio that comes in is processed with an A/D converter and then back through an D/A before amplification.
The manufacturer specs should detail this information.

LMAO “tip your waitress” now…you KNOW if more gays were like Lafayette…the gay rights movement would leap forward 1,000 years..this is EXACTLY what ignorant losers need, a punch in the face to teach them a lesson.

  5. FUNKY WHY says:

Try the Starkey Foundation, I was just issued 2 brand new aides for my daughter, they are in the canal aides and she loves them, they are light and unnoticeable! Also try the DARS(Deaf & Hard of hearing Services) in your area I have an 866-685-0407 # for them, Hope that helps!

Hardly any insurances cover hearing aids…that doesn't mean they are not worth the money, it just means insurance companies are cheap. You can try Audient http://www.audientalliance.org which is a non-profit branch of the Lion's club that will help you obtain quality hearing aids at a reduced cost from retail if you income qualify. But one word of advice–stick with an audiologist and not a hearing aid dealer if you are concerned about getting "ripped off".

  7. Howard says:

    Howard,

I had the same question two months ago after they told me the chilling news that I had a hearing loss and needed hearing aids. Then they told me how much they were. Needless to say, I was floored.

When I got home I searched on the Internet and found a company called AidRight Hearing Aids and they saved me a lot of money and they connected me with an excellent audiologist and I am hearing better today than I have heard for years!

If you are new to hearing aids you really need to do your research because a lot of people out there will take advantage of you. Go to aidright.com and the people there will help you.

    God bless!

  9. Molly B says:

It is possible for a spirit to communicate directly through a hearing aid. Often they will speak directly into unattended microphones.

FYI – It is called an EVP.
